The Film
Based on the novel by Daniel Kehlmann, the most successful work of German fiction since Süskind's Perfume, with nearly three million copies sold in Germany and translated into approximately 50 languages. It chronicles the endeavors of the mathematician Gauss and the explorer Humboldt. An €11 million production, starring Albrecht Schuch and Florian David Fitz.
The Locations
Filming in October 2011 was centered around the Untermarkt. Inside the town hall's inner courtyard and, most notably, within the halls of the historic Brauner Hirsch palace, various film sets were constructed, meticulously recreating the scientific Europe of the early 19th century.
