The Monuments Men

Clooney, Damon, and Murray on the Trail of Art Looted by the Nazis

The Film

Based on a true story: a group of allied art historians and curators recover masterpieces stolen by the Nazis from European museums during the war, including the Ghent Altarpiece and the Madonna of Bruges. With a global box office of over $155 million, starring Clooney, Damon, and Bill Murray.

The Locations

The Obermarkt square and other vistas of the historic town center were utilized for sequences depicting military troops in transit. The architectural heritage, remaining completely intact from wartime bombings, allowed the filmmakers to recreate a war-torn Europe traversed by the protagonists without the need for special effects.
